Chart-topping Ed Sheeran is top of the arts too as he stands next to the National Portrait Gallery’s new painting of him. The London venue already has a photograph of the music star on display and has now acquired his first portrait. Ed, 26, posed for three hours for sketches and photos for Colin Davidson’s oil painting after the Irish artist met the musician’s art historian dad John. The artist said : “When painting a portrait I am looking for the moment when the person is almost unaware of me being there and I feel I got it with Ed.

Legal risks in hosting fans, adviser warns
By Chris Morris
Dunedin homeowners hoping for an Airbnb windfall by hosting fans of Ed Sheeran and the British and Irish Lions are being urged to consider the legal risks. The city will throw its doors open to thousands of travelling fans when the Lions take on the Highlanders on June 13 and when pop superstar Ed Sheeran arrives for the first of three concerts in March next year. And, with Dunedin’s commercial accommodation already straining under the pressure, many of those visiting the city would turn to websites such as Airbnb to find a house or room to rent. But the peer-to-peer accommodation service’s rapid rise was not without legal risks, and homeowners needed to be aware of them […] Since the arrival of the new Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, anyone using a site such as Airbnb to rent out their property was considered a “PCBU” – a “person conducting a business or an undertaking”. That meant they had to comply with the requirements of the new legislation, or face a potential Worksafe prosecution if their negligence led to a guest being injured or killed…

Lorde’s ‘Green Light’: A Brilliant Songwriter Enters Her Prime
By Jason Lipshutz 3 Feb 2017
Quick question: What’s the most impressive thing about Lorde?
Take a breath, because there’s really no wrong answer here. You could say it’s her prodigy status and how quickly and thoroughly she achieved her international success: when “Royals”, her debut single, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in October 2013, Ella Yelich-O’Connor was 16 years old, making her the youngest solo artist to reach the top of the chart since Tiffany in 1988.
You could nod to her singular style, previously a strain of dark pop defined by its sparseness, programmed beats, slower tempos and swirling hooks, all anchored by a voice that can rattle off details (“gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin’ in the bathroom, bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin’ the hotel room”) and sprawl out in space (“And we’ll never be rooooyals”) with the same fortitude. Since her debut project Pure Heroine — which has sold 1.66 million copies to date, according to Nielsen Music — was released nearly four years ago, its sound has helped define top 40 thanks to smashes by The Weeknd, Alessia Cara and Tove Lo, among others.
Or maybe it’s her consistency: Pure Heroine remains a 10-track opus bursting with ideas about love, loneliness and lack of representation within modern music, while most of Lorde’s non-Heroine material — her Hunger Games single “Yellow Flicker Beat,” her Disclosure collaboration “Magnets” — is just as textured and carefully orchestrated. Some of Lorde’s songs are better than others, but they’re never phoned-in or forgettable.
So, again, really no wrong answer here. But with “Green Light,” a comeback single that barges into your heart on its first play, Lorde makes a good case that her songwriting, above all else, is her strongest asset.

Brand new sounds in my mind

Sometimes I wake up in a different bedroom
I whisper things, the city sings ’em back to you

THAT WAS FAR TOO MUCH OF THE SPOILTCRASS THAT IS LORDE
Signing off…….

Watch Katy Perry’s Delicious ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ Lyric Vid: Bouncing Hamsters, Micro-Burgers & Teeny Spaghetti
2/10/2017 by Gil Kaufman
Katy Perry goes real small in the lyric video for her brand new single, “Chained to the Rhythm”. While the singer doesn’t appear in the clip, she does make sure some delicious micro-meals get prepared for a family of adorable hamsters. There’s really no other way to explain the out-there visual for the bouncy reggae-tinged track co-written by Sia and featuring Skip Marley, grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley.
Directed by Aya Tanimura, the adorbs clip features a hamster emoji bouncing over the lyrics (“so comfortable, we’re living in a bubble, bubble/ So comfortable, we cannot see the trouble, trouble”) as a pair of hands delicately cook up micro-burgers and teeny spaghetti for a rodent family. Is KP making a statement about the state of our world with the repeated cuts to hamsters running endlessly on wheels? Who knows?
The thing is damn cute, though.

David Bowie – No Plan, 1 day ago

### NME.com 1:06 am – Jan 8, 2017
New David Bowie ‘No Plan’ EP and video released to mark his birthday
By Andrew Trendell
Featuring Bowie’s final ever recordings from the ‘Lazarus’ musical
To mark what would have been David Bowie‘s 70th birthday, a new EP of music has been released along with a video for ‘No Plan’. As well as the single ‘Lazarus’, the EP also features tracks recorded for the acclaimed musical of the same name – backed by the bittersweet melancholy of ‘No Plan’, the dark and menacing jazz-tinged scorched rock of ‘Killing A Little Time’ akin to his material from ‘Outside’ and the ambient acid rock of ‘When I Met You’. Recorded around the time of ‘Blackstar’ for the musical ‘Lazarus’, these were Bowie’s final ever recordings.

Directed by Tom Hingston, the video calls upon the motif of rows of TV screens from ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth’, with a nod to main character Thomas Newton with the shop name ‘Newton Electrical’ – ending with visions of space travel and fitting final salute from Bowie. Link

Wikipedia: The Kills
The Kills are an indie rock band formed by American singer Alison Mosshart (“VV”) and British guitarist Jamie Hince (“Hotel”). Their first four albums, Keep On Your Mean Side, No Wow, Midnight Boom, and Blood Pressures, have garnered critical praise. Ash & Ice, their fifth and most recent studio album is set to be released on June 3, 2016. Wanting to cut themselves off from their pasts, Mosshart and Hince renamed themselves “VV” and “Hotel”, respectively. Hince said that he and Mosshart “got drunk one day and named each other off the top of our heads as a stupid romantic ode to the pop art scene.” Later, after each wrote multiple band name ideas on typewriters, Mosshart and Hince decided on a new name, The Kills. Together, they began writing sparse, minimalist songs with the aid of a drum machine.

The new video “Out of the Woods” is off Taylor’s multi-platinum release 1989.

Out of the Woods Lyrics
Songwriters: Jack Antonoff, Taylor Swift

Looking at it now, it all seems so simple
We were lying on your couch, I remember
You took a Polaroid of us
Then discovered (then discovered)
The rest of the world was black and white
But we were in screaming colour
And I remember thinking

Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods?
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
In the clear yet, good…..

Looking at it now, last December
We were built to fall apart, then fall back together…..

We’ll be passing by
And they’ll be wasting time
Just waiting for new
And while they’re chasing darks
We’ll be dancing in the dusk
‘Cause we’re coming through
Whenever you need me I’m behind
And I promise to take you off to the heights

When you feel you’ve had enough, and you wasted all your love
I’ll be here for you, here for you
When the dog is at his bone, and you run away from home
I’ll be here for you, here for you

Well I’m here for you, I’m here for you, you, you
I’m here for you, yeah, I’m here for you, you, you

And while they’re on the ground
We’ll be looking down
‘Cause we found the truth
And the fire in our hearts
Will be blowing up the stars
Now we’re coming through
Whenever you’re feeling down inside
I promise to take you off to the height

Oh yeah, I’m here for you
And when you feel you’ve had enough, and you’ve wasted all your love

NZ Police family violence campaign #WalkAway

New Zealand Police Published on Dec 16, 2015
Singer Tina Cross and Counties Manukau’s police choir have joined forces to re-record Tina’s song Walk Away. Supported by Otahuhu Blue Light Choir, and with messages from It’s Not OK champions Vic Tamati and Jude Simpson, this video makes a heartfelt statement – family violence is never OK, but it is OK to ask for help.

New Zealand Police – Media Release
Walk Away from violence (video)

Thursday, 17 December 2015 – 2:40pm

A police choir has joined forces with Kiwi singing star Tina Cross to take a powerful and heartfelt stand against family violence.

Tina Cross, the Counties Manukau District Commander’s Police Choir and teenagers from Otahuhu Blue Light Choir joined forces to re-record Tina’s song Walk Away, with its message of support for women in abusive relationships.

The video – including messages from Jude Simpson and Vic Tamati, champions for the national anti-violence campaign It’s Not OK – was launched at Counties Manukau Police District Headquarters.

The launch included a live performance of the song, a screening of the video and speakers including Jude, Vic and Police Commissioner Mike Bush.

Choir leader Inspector Wati Chaplow and manager Martin Bailey approached Tina – who had twice previously performed with the choir – about collaborating on Walk Away, from her 2014 album Lay Down Your Heart.

“She’s a true professional and an amazing performer,” says Wati. “We knew she had this song that dealt with family violence. Its lessons – ‘walk away’ and ‘give her a voice’ – are very apt to our work.”

He says the inclusion of Jude and Vic’s stories adds to the impact. “It’s hard for a victim to walk away but Jude is proof that it can be done. And Vic’s story shows that as an offender you can also walk away from that violence and anger.”

Tina, an ambassador for Women’s Refuge, says working with the police and Blue Light singers had been “absolutely brilliant”.

“We’re all in the same waka,” she says. “The kaupapa is the same for us all, sworn officer or non-sworn. The most important thing is what the song can deliver.”

Uptown funk (Minions Voice)
Music: “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars (Google Play • iTunes)

Minions are small, yellow, pill-shaped creatures who have existed since the beginning of time, evolving from single-celled organisms into beings who exist only to serve history’s most villainous masters. They find great masters—including a T. Rex, a caveman, an Egyptian pharaoh, Dracula, and Napoleon —but after accidentally killing nearly all of them with their incompetence, they decide to isolate themselves from the world and start a new life in Antarctica. By 1968, the lack of a master drives them into depression, so one minion—Kevin—plans to find a new master.

Minions is a 2015 American 3D computer-animated family comedy film, and a prequel/spin-off to the Despicable Me franchise. Produced by Illumination Entertainment for Universal Pictures, it was directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, written by Brian Lynch, and produced by Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy. The film stars Coffin (as the Minions), Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, Steve Coogan, and narrated by Geoffrey Rush. It was first foreshadowed in the end credits of Despicable Me 2, where Stuart, Kevin, and Bob, three of the Minions, are seen auditioning for the film.

Minions premiered on June 11, 2015, in London, and was released in the United States on July 10, 2015. Despite mixed reviews, the film has grossed over $655 million worldwide.
