N Building Featuring Augmented Reality
Everyday applications for augmented reality are becoming more and more commonplace, and Japan may soon be home to one of the first adapted augmented reality societies.

N Building is a commercial structure that is located in a Tokyo shopping district. Instead of covering the facade with typical billboards and neon lights N Building is covered with QR code. This allows passers-by to view the QR Code with their mobile device’s for a very unique augmented reality experience that will display up to date shop information, interactive advertisements and even display the tweets that are coming out of the building. You can also browse shop information, make reservations and download coupons.

Worldwide sensation: Seeing beyond reality with the NAi and 3D-Augmented Reality

The Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi) is delighted to announce the launch of SARA: the world’s first mobile architecture application featuring augmented reality with 3D models. Starting today, with SARA, an urban augmented reality application, you can see and experience the built environment of the past, present and future, via Layar Browser. The NAi has set itself an incredible challenge: to make the Netherlands the first country in the world to have its entire architecture viewable on smartphones thanks to augmented reality. From February 2010, the application can be downloaded from Android Market and the Apple App Store.

Augmented Reality
The principle of augmented reality is very simple: just point your smartphone at a building and get to see not only photos and video material but 3D models, scale models and interesting details and information about it. You can also add your own information about the building or plot out architecture walks taking in designs that particularly appeal to you.

SARA is developed in cooperation with IN10 Communication and Layar. For further details, visit: www.nai.nl/sara
