Until we learn the news and afterwards, let’s keep comments proper!
Yeah, we know. Snowflakes with unlimited access to ratepayer-paid lawyers.
Anyway are they not all admirable, honourable, outstandingly competent, reliable, pathologically truthful ladies and gentlemen? Of course they are. We are truly blessed.

ODT: More management moves at DCC
By David Loughrey
It is a case of management musical chairs at the Dunedin City Council after the recent resignation of the head of the city’s property department. And change is set to continue at the council as it investigates how its parks and recreation and property departments “may be able to work more closely together”. Former water and waste group manager Laura McElhone has taken Kevin Taylor’s role as the new general manager of property services, after Mr Taylor resigned last month. The resignation came after a Deloitte review of the property department’s performance. Cont/
Musical chairs!
The problem is they’re not playing the requiem March.
The Property Department. Hmmm? It will be interesting to see what [the new general manager] does here. If [they are] as smart as we are led to believe then it shouldn’t take long to empty it all out and close the Dept down. Likely, not in a million years.
Ridiculous idea, Calvin :)
We do need people at DCC to run our ratepayer owned community assets (eg halls, venues, infrastructure, monuments, cemeteries, pools, parks and reserves, libraries, social housing etc – and, for example, land acquired for roading changes), although at least some of the commercial properties should go where DCC appears to be directly competing with private sector businesses.
Not a good idea for our assets to be run by Customer Services….
Career advancement, Calvin, lies not in closing an unnecessary department but in expanding it, thus requiring more staff and resources.
Salary structures today are not unlike pyramid schemes, the difference being that the top person stays at the top but is elevated to greater salary and status by increasing the number what report to them from the lower layers. Movement upward to a higher [position] can be because of greater competence but since each layer of the pyramid is smaller than the one below, yet all must stay in proportion, if there are more exceptional employees on the lower layer some will be left down there. Conversely, if none is exceptional one of the mediocrities will have to be moved up i.e. promoted beyond capabilities.
Received.

Subject: DCC Management Changes
Would like to draw your attention to today’s ODT (page 4) where more management changes at DCC have been announced. Note that Tom Dyer who has been looking after Southern Coastline – St Clair/Middle Beach, is moving to Water and no ‘Coastline’ replacement is intended until next year!!!
Maybe they are anticipating that by next year there won’t BE a coastline.
Only one folder they need to open in the City Property filing cabinet: “XR8 Holdings”.
Thanks Phil.
