artistic license is: entirely at the artist’s discretion; intended to be tolerated by the viewer (cf “willing suspension of disbelief”); useful for filling in gaps, whether they be factual, compositional, historical or other gaps; used consciously or unconsciously, intentionally or unintentionally or in tandem #

political satire is a significant part of satire that specialises in gaining entertainment from politics; it has also been used with subversive intent where political speech and dissent are forbidden by a regime, as a method of advancing political arguments where such arguments are expressly forbidden. political satire is usually distinguished from political protest or political dissent, as it does not necessarily carry an agenda nor seek to influence the political process. while occasionally it may, it more commonly aims simply to provide entertainment. by its very nature, it rarely offers a constructive view in itself; when it is used as part of protest or dissent, it tends to simply establish the error of matters rather than provide solutions. #

    I think Earl Hagaman
    a business man going through his processes, funding his successes and failures, deserves every right to [claim against] Andrew Little for mouthing off.

    He has the right, sure. He also has a choice. Graciously accepting apology would make him look better than a win in court. Everyone knows that winning in court doesn’t prove a lot, and desperation to “clear” his name looks like maybe … well, maybe …..

    I see the ODT has issued an apology for this Garrick Tremain cartoon in today’s paper.
    I can’t imagine why. I think the hairstyle…. or piece?…looks great. How amazing to be able to grow that in your latter years. It looks so natural.
    Given my own sparse, white locks, I’m envious.
    Maybe Garrick didn’t draw it quite right and so he should apologise. Some people are very sensitive about their hair.

    {Then we must also apologise. And we do. I don’t think cartooning around President Trump’s coiffure, or Bieber’s, has attracted defamation proceedings. But look what’s ‘collectable’ now. -Eds}

    Hype, the more suits against Andrew Little the shorter time he will be on our screens and radar.

      Yes, so it would be a heartening sign of wealth *not* being used as a political bludgeon were Hagaman to behave with grace and accept Little’s apology.
