Ex ‘greater’ sitting councillor

“Not campaigning because of being paid by the day to do 2GP Commissioner work while also being paid as Council Chair. We’re supposed to be impressed.

The most deluded council members have warned us – they say they have visions.
Likely in the city not for the city.”

    Another ex ‘greater’ described.

ODT: It had to be the waning moon
….Dunedin is generally an enlightened place. […] But when the chairman of the meeting at the university, OUSA vice-president Jarred Griffiths, asked candidates to describe Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull (66) in one word, the ageism quickly broke out.
Scout Barbour-Evans (21) got in early with the word “old”. […] Candidate Abe Gray (34), asked the same question, came up with “wrinkly”.
Jim O’Malley (52) stepped up and dragged the tenor of the meeting back to polite with his description of “pleasant”, before Cr Andrew Whiley (50) somewhat derisively described Mr Cull as a “manager”, and Cr Lee Vandervis (61) went the whole hog and said he “has people suck up to him — he’s a sycophant magnet”.

Being away from Dunedin for some time I have just learned that Kate Wilson is standing again. Quite frankly given her past record in the past three years this is of great concern. I would exercise extreme caution in this regard.#

Stand not upon the pedals of t’electoral cycle, But go at once.

To every Greater, turn turn turn
There comes a season, turn turn turn
To get on yer bike, to take a hike, to vanish.

    In a number of words-
    Open-?
    Judicial-?
    Transparent-?
    Deluded- yes see South Dunedin
    Even Handed-?
Managerial- see Mudtanks, cycle ways, car theft etc etc

    But the final word

    Past it!

Not that “being a commissioner to the 2GP plan” limits her ability to campaign. After six years of “Positive Vision, Passion for bringing people together (preferably by cycle), and having a strong voice for open transparent governance”, I think it is time for Kate to simply bugger off.

“Sycophant magnet” – splendid expression, and accurate. It appears to be original too (I googled briefly) and given its aptness not only re our local enchained underachiever but to Pooh-Bahs in all corners of the world.
Vandervis has often been slammed for his bluntness, for saying what he means and meaning what he says.
If that’s a fault, I’ll take it ahead of facile public speakers who are said to be “good communicators” but when held to account argue that he didn’t actually promise X, he had managed to sound straight-shooting and honourable while leaving huge rat-holes to scamper down when the heat came on.

    Remember Cull’s anti-stadium speech?

Vandervis has now come out with an expression that is both vivid and bitingly accurate. All who revel in lively language – doesn’t this make up for missing an hour’s sleep because of the change to daylight saving!

What an uninspiring list. A vote for Kate is a vote for empty platitudes.

Just a point about Cr Wilson’s ability to campaign (due to busyness) – it’s not overly hampered by the 2GP process at this time since a relative lull in the hearings coincides with this sharp end of the hustings. A bit of reading to do but no more than ususal. Has Cr Wilson, Chair of Infrastructure Services Committee, given up. It’s a lot different to campaign at large than in Middlemarch area, true. She may be voted back in by virtue of people wanting more women on council – but as with everything in local government the emphasis has to be on merit and accomplishments, not XX chromosomes, not cycleways. Not floods.

    Just in from Anonymous:

My people down in the everglades are suddenly receiving crap flyers from the non-campaigning, suddenly desperately campaigning KW.
The rubbish bins are reportedly bulging.
