The stripping away of Cr Vandervis’ voting rights effectively strips away the rights of those who voted for him. This leaves those who voted for him discriminated against as they have no-one to represent their political opinion.

Those wishing to lay a complaint, advice:

Cite Human Rights Act 1993 section 21(1)(j)

    Human Rights Act
Section 21 Prohibited grounds of discrimination
(1)For the purposes of this Act, the prohibited grounds of discrimination are—
    (j) political opinion, which includes the lack of a particular political opinion or any political opinion.

    (a slight niggle ….)

I think you have to extend this slightly: section 21 of the Human Rights Act basically explains what the word “discrimination” means for section 19 of the Bill of Rights Act – this is the real law that’s been broken by the Mayor.

Section 19(1) says “Everyone has the right to freedom from discrimination on the grounds of discrimination in the Human Rights Act”.

BTW: 20I of the Human Rights Act explicitly says that this applies to the DCC and council.

Council has Monday to remove the voting censure.

From Tuesday constituents need to invoke their right to contact the Mayor and those Councillors who voted in support of the censure, phone in to customer services and complain about the direction and leadership of this council, and issue legitimate Fix It requests for everything and anything that is a problem in this city.

The potholes alone should generate thousands of those.

A lot of people have spoken about how this has been presented in the media. Just put your subscription on hold during the censure. Really pissed off? Send an email to editor@odt.co.nz requesting a change of round for the reporter or you will make it permanent.

There are many ways to make your point.

    Members who removed your representation:

    > Mayor Dave Cull
    > Cr David Benson-Pope
    > Cr John Bezett
    > Cr Aaron Hawkins
    > Cr Jinty MacTavish
    > Cr Andrew Noone
    > Cr Neville Peat
    > Cr Chris Staynes
    > Cr Richard Thomson
    > Cr Andrew Whiley
    > Cr Kate Wilson

It is more than the Councillor concerned. This is about the removal of voting representation from those constituents who legitimately voted for a Councillor. The issue is of concern to all sides and Dave Cull’s supporters would be equally upset if it happened to them. The censure of voting rights from an elected member of council is not an appropriate response to any dispute.

Their focus was solely upon Lee Vandervis. It has become obsessional for Cull and most of the so called Greater Dunedin mob. – They couldn’t see beyond that nor what they are there for, who in fact they are meant to serve or even who pays for them. They have committed a travesty of governance and managed to disenfranchise many citizens. They are not fit for purpose.

      • O me miserum

Great to see that by attending; speaking, and VOTING Lee you will deny them credence to this kind of Banana Republic governance type (Greater Deception driven) balls up. You must overtly vote. Every time you vote you create a problem for them. They have a choice of trying to avoid exposure to their rabid decision making, by ignoring you; in which case they expose their flanks to their failure to enforce, or they make an issue of your voting, which gives them so much negative exposure, and you so much positive exposure. You simply can’t lose. You are in a position to keep on picking the scab at every committee and Council meeting. Taunt them, taunt them, taunt them, and then taunt them again. Cull will then have to consider booking a room at Ashburn Hall.

What does Dave Cull actually stand for ?

How quickly he folded to the pressure of defamation case bought against him by the ORFU Old Boys when it seemed he was either too lazy or too jaded to actually seek evidence/information that may have proved his statements correct and saved the Ratepayer $500k.

The lazy, jaded Cull now seeks to silence Vandervis, a man who is not only prepared to speak up for Ratepayers, but who doggedly demands the full release of the $200k Ratepayer funded investigation report that Cull, the DCC and the Police do not want us to see !!

One might say Old King Cull was “the weakest link”, were it not for his Kangaroo Courtiers and Courtesans. What a shower!
