BS ALERT
Mr Cull, who is on the subcommittee, said the targets were partly about following direction from central government and also about being responsible in the face of climate change.

DCC aims to reduce emissions
By Vaughan Elder
A target to reduce Dunedin City Council’s emissions 5% by 2018-19 is partly about setting a good example, Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull says. The council’s draft emissions management and reduction plan was presented to members of the sustainability audit subcommittee last week at its first meeting.

DCC emissions (via ODT)
• The council emits 30,696 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (tCO2e) per year, roughly equivalent to the yearly emissions from 6500 passenger vehicles.
• That equates to 248 kgCO2e per resident and 560 kgCO2e per rateable property.
• Of the council’s emissions 23,039 tCO2e, or 75%, is from landfilled waste.
• The council’s draft emission target aims for an overall reduction of 5% by 2018 19 and a 20% reduction in non landfill emissions.

The Sustainability Audit Subcommittee comprises:
Janet Stephenson (Chairperson), Mayor Dave Cull, Councillors David Benson-Pope and Jinty MacTavish, Gael Ferguson and Brett Tomkins —see previous post and comments Link

U.N. Official Reveals Real Reason Behind Warming Scare
Economic Systems: The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man’s stewardship of the environment. But we know that’s not true. A United Nations official has now confirmed this. At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism. Dave. Forget trying to get the council’s emissions down by 5%. Get the F……. rates down by 5%. Then you might be doing something useful.

    • And Sally you are exactly right – this is a typically political diversionary tactic – the real problems are (a) the massive debt burden we have to cover and (b) the ever increasing cost of running the city. The mayor should be focussed on that not fluffing around about co2 and yapping about LED traffic lights for pity sake.

  2. Cars

If we could get the staff to steal a few more cars, or legislate so that the parking officers rode bikes, or perhaps ban all council employees from driving to work, now that would get the carbon usage down. It would also have one really material effect. Many DCC staff would resign and that is the only way for the DCC debt burden to be brought under control.

As to manmade climate change that is the south sea bubble, the tulip bubble of our time. An opportunity for Al Gore and others to get rich from our/your gullibility.

Oh and the flat earthers meeting is at 6pm at the stadium bring a plate with food only prepared carbon free! Entry free but a donation of a minimum of $10 contribution to DVML employees’ pension fund.

Correct me if I’m wrong Dave, but isn’t all the electricity generated in the South Island Hydro? So, I guess when you said one of the biggest emissions was from electricity, what you really meant was that it was light emission increase by the use of LED. Dave, you really do ‘suck up’ without question that which your ‘erks’ spoon feed you.

  4. Calvin Oaten

Mike: As a matter of interest, how much electricity is generated per annum at the landfill? We never hear, which if it was a bonanza, would be shouted from the rooftops at dawn and sunset every day. I know it has not been without its problems and the installed costs (after two separate goes) were not inconsiderable. Still it’s a fair shot at sustainability anyway. That of course does not obviate the point that the bulk of all electricity consumed both by DCC and citizens is Hydro generated, with a nil CO2 footprint.

    • Mike

Emitting CO2 rather than CH4 is a net win whether they make electricity or not, but it’s still a C emission, if their goal is to reduce emissions then the tip is obviously the place to start – probably a better solution is to replace the methane producing bacteria with a strain that doesn’t (which is basically the plan for fixing the whole cow fart problem).

We see that Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, has admitted that the goal of environmental activists is to destroy capitalism. Most people would dismiss this as being too loopy to believe, but they might not realize that many others have made similar statements.

Here is a quote by Christine Stewart, former Canadian Environment Minister: “No matter if the science is all phoney, there are collateral environmental benefits…. climate change [provides] the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world.”
Also, Maurice Strong, a high level UN official and principal organizer of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit which created Agenda 21 (aka Sustainable Development) said: “Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsibility to bring that about?”
One more – from an officially sanctioned summary of the UN’s Agenda 21: “Effective execution of Agenda 21 will require a profound reorientation of all human society, unlike anything the world has ever experienced a major shift in the priorities of both governments and individuals and an unprecedented redeployment of human and financial resources”.

Locally, the promoters of Sustainable Development (eg Dave Cull, Jinty, Kate Wilson and most of the staff) prefer the name sustainability (small “s”) as a way of hiding the fact that Sustainable Development is a political ideology. Many are fooled by their cute definitions into thinking that Sustainable Development is about looking out for the future, but Sustainable Development isn’t sustainable and it isn’t development, it’s pure politics; but not the politics that you vote for, the politics that gradually infiltrates into central and local government policy. For example, Dave Cull (FB) says: My first duty in Qingdao was presenting at an Eco-cities conference. My theme was that sustainability as a principle underpinning all of Council’s decisions and planning has to be “business as usual” rather than a lofty aspiration. Dave is a true believer in political Sustainability. He will not let the principles of democracy – elections and consultation – interfere with their plan.

      BRAVO JimmyJones !!!!
Useful overview of what we’re looking at in facing local body elections in 2016. Disaster of Magnitude 10 ? If no field of business-smart yet prudent candidates with appeal to the majority of voters.

You say “Locally, the promoters of Sustainable Development (eg Dave Cull, Jinty, Kate Wilson and most of the staff) prefer the name sustainability (small “s”) as a way of hiding the fact that Sustainable Development is a political ideology. This is absolutely true and conforms exactly to the ‘blueprint’ of Agenda 21 developed by Maurice Strong (who incidentally now lives in Beijing). These people that you name above are in fact the ‘useful idiots’ recruited at local level to carry out their agenda. The agenda for local government is set out in chapter 28 of the Agenda, the first statement of which is quoted below. The objective is world government. But not by you or indeed the ‘useful idiots’ who are of course dispensed with once their usefulness is over.

      Agenda 21 – Chapter 28
LOCAL AUTHORITIES’ INITIATIVES IN SUPPORT OF AGENDA 21
      PROGRAMME AREA
      Basis for action

28.1. Because so many of the problems and solutions being addressed by Agenda 21 have their roots in local activities, the participation and cooperation of local authorities will be a determining factor in fulfilling its objectives.
Local authorities construct, operate and maintain economic, social and environmental infrastructure, oversee planning processes, establish local environmental policies and regulations, and assist in implementing national and sub-national environmental policies. As the level of governance closest to the people, they play a vital role in educating, mobilizing and responding to the public to promote sustainable development.

  6. Calvin Oaten

You’re onto it Jimmy! That’s been my fear ever since I first read the Agenda 21 in its entirety. The Global Warming, now Climate Change, is nothing more than a tool to put the fear of doom into the population at large. Fear is what is the greatest ally for these sort of people. Maurice Strong has set his own agenda together with Dag Hammarskjold the former UN Secretary General who was killed in a plane crash. He was succeeded by U Thant an equally devoted man to the cause of World Government. Once they create world government and one world currency administrated by the IMF then that would be “1984 and Animal Farm” all in one package.
If you want to follow the conspiracy further look into the philosophy of the “University of Peace” and its connections with the United Nations you will get some real eye openers into ‘sustainability’ and other ideas. In fact Ian Wishart has written a book covering the intrigue including the impact of the cult of ‘Satanism’. Sound far fetched? Just follow it through and come to your own conclusions.

  7. Calvin Oaten

As a follow up to the UN influence, just Google “The St Lucis Trust United Nations”. You don’t have to believe it, but there is food for thought nonetheless.

  8. JimmyJones

Calvin: The battle for hearts and minds will be long and difficult and so far common sense and democracy are loosing against the UN’s Sustainable Development campaign. Like other extremists the Sustainability footsoldiers are dedicated, patient and hard working, as well as deeply embedded into the DCC. One weakness of the crusaders is that nearly all decisions based on Sustainable Development are severely stupid and generally defy logic. Often the lack of logic is hidden by spin-doctoring. We have seen the DCC’s Car-hate campaign continuing with car parking unaffordable for many and more and more on-street parks being removed. There is also the planned closure of the North and South parts of the One-way system and Dave Cull’s car-less city obsession.

When fighting these people, one way to instantly loose credibility is to mention “world government” and anything that sounds conspiratorial. I suggest that we concentrate on local issues that are associated with Sustainable Development, which will include most of the stupid things that the DCC is about to do. Without asking us, the DCC staff have decided that the two fundamental goals of the DCC are – Sustainable Development and sucking-up to Maori; they don’t care about the well-being and prosperity of the citizens or anything like that. Nothing is more important to them than their ideological crusades.
