Coop Himmelb(l)au, Dalian Conference Center, China, 2008-12.
A continuously changing surface that rises and falls and bulges in the middle to include a theatre and opera house. Organised like block chords of music that open up and close, it is reminiscent of both Wagnerian chromaticism and the tonal melding of Philip Glass and John Adams.

David Byrne: How architecture helped music evolve
Filmed February 2010 at TED2010
As his career grew, David Byrne went from playing CBGB to Carnegie Hall. He asks: Does the venue make the music? From outdoor drumming to Wagnerian operas to arena rock, he explores how context has pushed musical innovation.
David Byrne builds an idiosyncratic world of music, art, writing and film.
Musician, author, filmmaker, curator, conservationist, digital music theorist, bicycle advocate, urban designer, visual artist, humanist … David Byrne has many ways of expressing himself — all of them heartfelt, authentic and thought-provoking.
From his ground-breaking recording career, first with Talking Heads and then as a solo artist and collaborator, to his recent use of digital media to connect his creations to the world, he has been meshing art and technology to create jaw-dropping, soulful masterpieces that tell a story, and often invoke his audience to create some masterpieces of their own. In a recent art installation, Playing the Building, Byrne transformed an empty building into a musical instrument, and then invited visitors to play it.
His book Bicycle Diaries is a journal of what he thought and experienced while cycling through the cities of the world. And his 2012 book How Music Works expands on his 2010 TEDTalk to imagine how music is shaped by its time and place.

Box
Box explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces. The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera. Bot & Dolly produced this work to serve as both an artistic statement and technical demonstration. It is the culmination of multiple technologies, including large scale robotics, projection mapping, and software engineering. We believe this methodology has tremendous potential to radically transform theatrical presentations, and define new genres of expression.
Find out exactly how “Box” was created in our exclusive behind the scenes video:

Factory Fifteen create the architecture-inspired music video for two tracks from The Bug, “Function” and “Void.” Factory Fifteen explain to The Creators Project, “There are several reasons why we are continually drawn to the deconstruction of architecture. One maybe because we studied architecture; we were all inspired by deconstructivism in architecture and find a beauty in the aesthetic of destruction. In this project we wanted to parallel the breakdown of the individual with the breakdown of the system. For us this was represented by the world and so became a literal collapse. Narratively for us this references the disintegration of non-physical things that have huge implications on our world, like the financial collapse and the economy of a city. For us the city and buildings are a character, the destruction of the world is as much the collapse of the protagonist’s world.” –
