Cull’s rosy future, at stadium…

Attempts to question Mr Davies about his working relationship with the Dunedin City Council and Carisbrook Stadium Trust were initially blocked by a communications contractor working for DVML, who interjected to stop the question at yesterday’s press conference.

Stadium hits a few speed bumps
By Chris Morris
The fans have flocked in, but the road has been rocky for David Davies since the opening of the Forsyth Barr Stadium. Chris Morris looks back. David Davies says his sense of humour has proved invaluable. It perhaps explains why he smiles when asked about criticism of the Forsyth Barr Stadium project, and himself personally, after two and a-half years in Dunedin. The questions came at yesterday’s press conference, as Mr Davies explained the reasons behind his shock decision to quit his post and return to England next year.

We seem to have overlooked something here. The stadium is leaking money like there’s no tomorrow, its only tenant is being paid to be there, there’s anger everywhere about what it’s costing to have the venue. And what does DMVL do to try and help the finances ? They hire a COMMUNICATIONS CONTRACTOR. WTF ? What the Hell is DMVL’s Marketing and Communications Manager being paid to do ? A Communications Contractor ? Seriously ? Since when was David Davies not capable of speaking for himself ? Trying to muzzle Guy, I can understand. But do they need to hire someone in to tell supposed professionals what to say ?

Is it Cull’s rosy future? Or is it the stadium’s rosy future? Is it that Dave Cull knows something that we all don’t? He tells us that a review of the stadium
and DVML’s management will be unveiled within weeks and completed later this year. Gee whiz, and they haven’t even unveiled the financial report for DVML’s performance in their first six months of operation. That would have been up at the end of January. Three and a half months later and still no sign. The whole business obviously hinges on the fortunes of the deal with the ORFU which keeps on suppurating like a chronic ulcer. Just why the DCC feels it is incumbent upon it to be so tolerant of such a dysfunctional, financially and morally bankrupt organisation is beyond understanding. Could it be that it is all to do with protecting some compromised people?

Calvin, we all need to look at where Cull sits in relation to the Stuart McLauchlans and Athol Stephens of this world. Cull needs to go.

Horwath HTL are involved with an events strategy for the stadium based on maximising student usage.

Anon, look how useless they were last time… but if DCC wants to sell the stadium to the silly university that would be a load off. Forsyth Barr ZOO.
