It certainly pays to be reminded what lies were circulated to get this ill-conceived project underway.

Percy Bysche Shelley may have lived 300 years ago, but he summed things up pretty well when he wrote:

“Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round that decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

For those that might be interested, the name that might appear on the pedestal is ????

Well that makes it quite clear that the design was compromised from the early concept sketches. Probably because that was too expensive. The roof line is quite different.

In answer to your pedestal question, Russell, none other than that self- appointed visionary, who bravely declared at the outset that he was aware he was taking on a ‘poisoned chalice’, but nevertheless he had a duty to serve and to prove to the good people of Dunedin that his skills would be lost if he wasn’t elected as Mayor. Nevertheless, he soldiered on, as if he was Mayor, and lo and behold we have a stadium with his name written all over it. (He at least got the ‘poisoned chalice’ right.)

Someone needs to ask the following question of CST or the “project managers”: – “Why is there such a huge amount of demolition work happening at the stadium this week?”
    – Motorised roller shutter doors have been removed and concrete block walls demolished at level 2.
    – Completed walls demolished at level 4 including completely fitted out accessible toilets.
It appears that many hundreds of thousands of dollars will have been wasted through poor planning related to the kitchen fitout work.

Sub-Rosa. None of what you say would surprise anyone who’s followed this project closely. All looking good for the final stadium debacle to get out of control. When you look at these cowboys, it will.

There are only 11 weeks left until it’s all meant to be all finished – including the Kitchen Fit-Out and the North Stand Extension (Academy of Sport) which hasn’t even started yet !!!!!
Note that the first event is scheduled for Sunday 7.08.11 –
Maybe its bring your own food ???
