Explores the built environment and seeks to engage the public in identifying opportunities to create a better and more liveable region after the Canterbury Earthquake.

Urban design needs to be at the core of the re-building of Christchurch. While at the scale of the city, urban design ideas are likely to shape larger interventions, it is the site-by-site process of rebuilding where urban design principles could have their most lasting impact on the quality of the city that will emerge from the rebuilding process, particularly the quality of its streets, public spaces and neighbourhoods.

    $250 million kick starts Christchurch rebuild
    ASB Bank today announced a $250 million package for earthquake devastated Christchurch offering interest free and discounted loans, aimed at kick-starting the rebuilding of the city. The package was aimed at stimulating the Christchurch economy, local businesses and community groups and was part of the largest disaster recovery and rebuild programme to be supported by the bank in its 164 year history, ASB chief executive Barbara Chapman said.         1000 evacuees visit Christchurch ’embassy’

        An estimated 1000 Christchurch evacuees have passed through Dunedin’s “Christchurch Embassy” since it was established a month ago, one of the co-ordinators says. But that was only a small proportion of the evacuees who had been sheltering or who were still sheltering in the city, Dunedin Council of Social Services executive officer Sue Russell said yesterday.
