City’s attractions to star in Tourism NZ website pilot

Dunedin tourism is ready for takeoff after the city’s attractions were chosen for a pilot project being undertaken by New Zealand’s official tourism website. Tourism New Zealand is redesigning www.newzealand.com to create a more user-generated content model, and Dunedin was the first regional tourism organisation to feature.

DCC to put waste plan to businesses

About 750 Dunedin businesses are about to hear how they will be affected by major changes to the Dunedin City Council’s trade waste system. The move follows two years’ work on the council’s trade waste bylaw, which, the council says, will introduce a “new and more equitable funding policy” by spreading the cost now paid by 23 large businesses.

Trade waste is any liquid waste, apart from usual kitchen and toilet waste, produced by a business and sent through the sewerage system.

Harland’s ‘big ask’: Save city $6m

Dunedin City Council managers are under pressure to help find $6 million in savings and slash next year’s forecast 9.1% rates increase by two-thirds. Council chief executive Jim Harland yesterday confirmed he aimed to find the savings from within the operating costs of council departments, along with capital spending and associated debt-repayment costs.
