Overall increase of 5.5% as council sets rates
The Dunedin City Council’s rates were officially set for the year yesterday, with a 5.5% overall increase.

The city had always managed its debt “very, very competently”.

    They have to pay for Harlands pay rise somehow.

    And they have to have enough to throw a few million down the toilet on totally pointless and unwanted projects like Lovelock Ave.

    And to waste on changing parking…… then changing it back again because what they did was really stupid.

    And they need more to make up for rates lost from B&B’s they are putting out of business.

    They can’t take it from city owned companies like Delta – otherwise they won’t have enough to spend on core business like corporate boxes.

      Nicely put David… I fear we could keep adding to your list! Just so we feel really hopeless and broke. I mean this surely is the definition (moving target?) of the term Richard loves: “intergenerational equity”.
