NZPassItOn is Kea’s innovative campaign to leverage the Rugby World Cup and turn New Zealander’s everywhere in roaming ambassadors for New Zealand.

“New Zealand has some of the coolest stuff in the world that nobody has ever heard of. But with the Rugby World Cup heading our way in 2011, it’s a good time to share some of our best kept secrets.”

Kea New Zealand is working on an innovative digital and ‘bricks and mortar’ global campaign – called ‘PassItOn’ – to involve the worldwide network of Kiwi expats in the Rugby World Cup. We are leveraging the international attention that the event will attract to tell a bigger story about our country. We want to promote everything that is cool, exciting and desirable about New Zealand.

Dunedin’s threat to Wellington Sevens

Chris Laidlaw in his column, ‘Laidlaw’s Line’ (ODT, 12.2.10), argues Dunedin is the only serious threat to Wellington’s hosting of the Sevens in 2012.

He writes off Auckland’s Eden Park as “stuck in a residential suburb with hopeless access and no party-central zone anywhere handy”. Hamilton, he says, lacks the infrastructure and is “far too dreary to provide the carnival atmosphere that the event thrives on”. Christchurch’s [AMI] stadium “suffers, like Eden Park, from being too suburban and too strait-laced”.

Laidlaw rates Dunedin – “home of the brave new glasshouse” – as a potentially serious threat.

“If ever there was a party zone tailor-made for such an event it is there, in and around the campus, and you can be sure that sevens players would just as readily enjoy Dunedin’s quirky ambience as they do the delights of Courtney Place.”

Okay, then follows the rider: Wellington’s business case is formidable . . . “Dunedin’s will need to be other-worldly to beat it.”
