Wimbledon unveils centre court roof

It was blustery, cold, cloudy and drizzly over southwest London – just the kind of weather fans had prayed when Wimbledon unveiled its new multi-million-dollar retractable roof over Centre Court.

Former Wimbledon champions Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, along with Kim Clijsters and Tim Henman had been billed to take centre stage for an exhibition event but for once it was not the players who were the main attraction.

Wimbledon unveils Centre Court roof to public

Wimbledon picked the perfect day for showcasing its new retractable roof on Centre Court. The sliding, canvassed roof barely had time to shut Sunday for the All England Club’s grand opening – or closing – of the new structure before the rain starting pouring down over south London. In the same kind of weather that has forced so many rain delays in the past, the Centre Court then hosted a televised tennis spectacle in perfect conditions.

On a day which can only be described as a huge success for the All England Club, the new Centre Court roof received a huge vote of confidence from Tim Henman, Kim Clijsters, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf after their exhibition matches.
