No stadium discussion scheduled, ORC's plan

Correction (13.03.09): The headline below is incorrect. The Otago Regional Council’s draft LTCCP includes funding for the planned Otago stadium. The Council’s decision to fund the project is not scheduled for discussion during upcoming community consultation on the plan.

Decision to fund stadium not in ORC plan

Otago Regional Council’s decision to contribute to funding Otago Stadium is not being consulted on in its upcoming long-term planning consultation, but that did not stop the issue becoming a debating point yesterday.

Dunedin gets three World Cup games

Dunedin will host three pool matches in the 2011 Rugby World Cup but Queenstown has missed out.

The tournament organising committee said today that Carisbrook will host pool matches involving Scotland and England against opponents yet to be confirmed, along with the pool match between Ireland and Italy.

Dunedin’s games are as follows:
Wednesday, September 14: Scotland Vs Europe 1
Saturday, September 24: England Vs Playoff winner
Sunday, October 2: Ireland Vs Italy

Invercargill’s games:
Saturday, September 10, Scotland Vs Playoff winner
Saturday, September 17: Argentina Vs Playoff winner.

“Nationwide” Rugby World Cup unveiled

Rugby New Zealand 2011 Limited CEO Martin Snedden says it is about making sure the tournament is a genuine nationwide opportunity.

“It’s a chance to bring to life that stadium of four million concept that we’ve talked about so much.”

Along with the opening match Eden Park will see the final. Auckland Mayor John Banks says his city will be more than ready.

“The build is going ahead on time, on budget and full steam ahead.”

Amongst glad elevated company… during today’s rugby gathering at Eden Park, Mayor Chin was glimpsed saying “the timeframe for the building [Otago stadium] will mean that we will be operational within two months of the start of the World Cup”.
