Respected journalist David Walsh made a comment the other day that’s worth considering. Relax, the comment won’t make much difference unless someone invents a time-machine but it deserves a moment of reflection, nonetheless. Walsh, whose investigations are best known for raising serious questions about the deeds of cyclist Lance Armstrong, took time out during a recent book promotion to slam the concept of professional sport and everything for which it stood.

Reading Richard Boock’s full article encapsulates all the reasons why no one should be contemplating building a debt funded stadium. Not now, not ever!

Here is the recent Velocity Nation interview with David Walsh (published Thu, 06/11/2009 – 8:29am by Andy Shen) that Richard Boock refers to. Towards the end of the interview David Walsh gives his views on professional sport and rugby.
Irishman David Walsh is the chief sportswriter for the Sunday Times of London and co-author, with Pierre Ballesters, of “le sale tour”. Their book looks at the way cycling is now operating, and the influence Lance Armstrong is able to achieve within the operation of the sport.
