By David Loughrey
The last-minute shot from stadium opponents to legally challenge the Dunedin City Council on its support for the project has come up short, with Stop the Stadium’s lawyer failing to convince a High Court judge his arguments stood up to scrutiny.

Mr Smith obviously didn’t get the memo about it being for purposes other than just rugby.
He’s probably one of the crowd who thinks Twickenham is single purpose too……

You haven’t read the latest peer reviews tabled at Council? Let your own myths continue.

If Mr Smith can’t accept that the facility is built with multi-use purposes in mind (and I accept that building a multi-purpose venue and actually getting non-rugby events there are two different things) then I can’t help him.
It quite frankly is a pathetic position to still maintain – thats its solely a rugby stadium. If he is judging it as such, well, he isn’t judging the issue in its entirety. No wonder he lost.

“Pro-Stadium smartarses” Poor Ian Smith, this has been a very terse man for quite some time now, making very profound and quite frankly amazing statements time and time again over at the StS web site, not to mention quite personal attacks.
Take this from the StS web site “Paul, you’ve surely inflicted your endless tedious semantics and voluminous knowledge of everything there is to be known, on this site for long enough.” Who’s the Smartarse now.
This is a man with his back up and seemingly incapable of putting together reasoned argument, he’s literally just coming out swinging at everyone in his radar now.
This also comes on the back of the fact that the StS censors all comments that I make at the site now, what a joke. The sad thing is that some reputations have taken a beating throughout this debate, from the misuse of so called scientific ‘facts’ through to this “personal pride” game played by Mr Smith for many months now. While others have bought meaningful debate surrounding the economics of the situation, Smith has bought nothing new to the argument apart from they ‘they are at me’ angle.
The irony of Mr Smiths comments however can’t be lost on the people. If one wants to see “voluminous” verbal diarrhea, just have a look at the 11 Volume tome “Why I don’t Support a Stadium” starting 26 July last year.
Copied and pasted into Microsoft Word at 1.5 spacing equates to (and don’t laugh) 30,500 words or 72 pages of crap. We are treated to history lesson after history lesson, his distrust of the Romans, his superior knowledge of stadium Acoustics stemming from his knowledge of Sibelius.
The guy put his head in the sand from day one, unfortunately someone gave him a bloody typewriter while he was down there.
“tedious semantics and voluminous knowledge of everything there is to be known” indeed. What a joke.
